Brainspotting Therapy

Brainspotting is a powerful and gentle therapy method that helps people process and heal from emotional pain, trauma, anxiety, and other challenges by using the connection between the body and the brain.

How It Works

Have you ever noticed that when you're thinking deeply or feeling emotional, your eyes naturally look in a certain direction? Brainspotting uses this natural connection between where you look and how you feel.

In a session, your therapist will help you find a "brainspot"—a particular eye position that connects to a specific emotion or memory. When you focus your gaze on that spot, it helps your brain access stored feelings, memories, and experiences that might be stuck. From there, your body and brain can begin to process and release what’s been held inside.

It’s kind of like finding the “file folder” in your brain where the emotional pain lives—then letting your brain sort through it, resolve it, and let it go.

What to Expect in a Session

  • You’ll be seated comfortably, often in a quiet room, and your therapist will guide you to focus on a body feeling or emotion.

  • Using a pointer or your natural eye movements, your therapist will help you find the brainspot where you feel the most activation (or sometimes the most calm).

  • Once the spot is found, you’ll simply focus your gaze there and notice what comes up. You don’t need to talk unless you want to.

  • Your therapist will check in with you gently, offering support as your brain processes emotions, memories, or body sensations.

  • Some people feel emotional, tired, calm, or reflective after a session—it’s all part of the healing process.

Who It Helps

Brainspotting is used with people of all ages and can be especially helpful if:

  • You’ve experienced trauma or upsetting events.

  • You struggle with anxiety, depression, or stress.

  • You feel “stuck” even after trying other types of therapy.

  • You want a method that doesn’t require you to talk through every detail of your experiences.

Why People Like It

  • It’s gentle, focused, and non-invasive.

  • It taps into the body’s natural healing ability.

  • You stay in control—your brain leads the way.

If you're curious about Brainspotting or wondering if it might be a good fit for you, feel free to ask your therapist. It’s one of many tools we can use together to support your healing and personal growth.
